I believe that women weren’t allowed to vote for such a long time because women were deprived of the same educations as men for so long, women were denied the right to vote.  Men believed that only the educated should be allowed to vote.  To an extent I agree.  The difference is that I believe that all people should be well educated, not just those who can afford higher educations.  Don’t get me wrong; I don’t think that everyone needs a higher education in order to vote.  I believe that they should have a basic education in reading, writing, arithmetic and a basic understanding of how the government works.  An example:  I was once talking with a woman who believed that the President was responsible for some boys not receiving the death penalty who killed a baby in Georgia during the commission of a robbery.  She did not understand that each state governs their own laws regarding the death penalty and the only time a President could issue a pardon was for Federal offenses.  I believe that such basic knowledge should be required before these people should be allowed to cast a vote in an election.
