“Are you there?” Linda asked. She felt a wave of air brush against her cheek and heard one tap on the light. This was their signal for “yes”. Two taps meant “no”.

She sat in a silence for a while. Linda had been very depressed lately and she didn’t know how to form the words to articulate her emotions. It was difficult communicating with the spirit, but she had been doing it since she was a child, so they had each grown rather patient.

“Steven left,” Linda explained. One tap of the light and what felt like a gentle hug around her shoulders. “I’m all alone now,” she continued. Two rather loud taps. The ghost apparently was angered by her dismissal of him so easily. Linda sighed. “I know you are here and you always will be, but it’s not the same as human interaction.” One tap. The spirit understood.

“I guess I am going to have to figure all this out. I’m not used to living without someone physically here. I should join a club or something,” Linda offered, starting to perk up. One tap for agreement.

“Maybe I can start blogging!” One tap for agreement and the light in the room even got brighter for a moment.

“Thank you for always being here for me,” Linda said. Air brushed against her cheek once more. Then the spirit left her to her musings.
