BlogHer Prompt: If you found one million dollars in the morning and had to spend it by nightfall, what would you do with the money?
- Buy houses and prepay utilities and taxes as far in advance as I could for myself and my family. (Average cost about $150,000 in the area I live in = $450,000)
- Buy a reliable vehicle for each member of my family. Nothing fancy. Something with good gas mileage and that isn’t too expensive to repair if it breaks down. (Average cost about $15,000 = $135,000)
- Prepay for college educations for my children and my brother’s children. (Currently the average cost in the United States is approximately $25,000 so $100,000 per child = $400,000)
- That leaves $15,000 left over to just have a basic shopping spree for my family and myself to buy clothes and accessories that we so desperately need.
This is just a basic breakdown of costs. These are not meant to be accurate figures in the least. Adjustments would have to be made to reflect actual costs of items once purchased. Although this does go to show that a million dollars doesn’t really go a long way anymore.
