Babies crying for attention

Adults arrested for violations

Basic needs not met

Years of living with regret

Lovers quarrel in the night

Only ending their needless plight

Nights end in modern day Babylon

Bullets fly through the yard

Allowing man to become hard

Buildings burn to the ground

Youthful innocence isn’t found

Liars begging, cheating, stealing

Our souls never feeling

Never believing in modern day Babylon

Bricks collapse from wear

Always fighting what we fear

Brave soldiers carrying on

Yearning for the last con

Looking forward to the end

Oblivious of one called friend

Narcissism in modern day Babylon

  1. Powerful writing here – and I love the acrostic. Very well done.

Ooo, and I’m a huge Mercedes Lackey fan too – especially the Valdemar books. (I caught sight of your Goodreads.)

    1. Thank you. It took a lot of edits and I’m still questioning if it is exactly right. Add to the fact that it had to be exactly 99 words and it was an interesting writing experience! lol
